Over the years, One Piece fans have debated whether or not a character can be considered a swordsman just because they wield a sword. Well, recently Bandai Namco’s Pirate Warriors 4 dropped their sixth character pass, which made somewhat of a revelation in the Pirate King’s character description.
Roger’s sword skills are mentioned in his description which is seen as a confirmation by some fans. Another cited piece of evidence used to back this claim was when Oda posted some fanart with the title “SWORDSMAN” with Roger being present in the back.
Oda captioned this image with “The swordsmen line-up!!…” which heavily implies Oda acknowledges these characters as swordsmen.
However, some fans disagree with this claim. Stating that Roger was also seen using pistols before, and sword users≠swordsman.
